Stillness can sound like a lofty idea, something reserved for monks on mountaintops or people with hours to meditate each day. But the truth is, stillness is available to all of us — here, now, in the middle of ordinary life.
Today, I want to share a simple ritual that I use whenever I feel scattered or restless. It only takes a few minutes, but it can shift your whole energy.
The Three-Minute Stillness Ritual
Step 1: Pause and Sit
Find a quiet spot. It doesn't have to be perfect — even your couch will do. Sit comfortably, with your back supported, and close your eyes if you like.
Step 2: Breathe with Intention
Take a slow breath in through your nose, feeling your chest and belly expand. Exhale gently through your mouth. Repeat this three times, each exhale longer than the last.
Step 3: Place Your Hand on Your Heart
Rest one hand over your heart. Notice the rhythm of your heartbeat. Whisper silently to yourself: "I am here. I am safe. I am enough".
Step 4: Listen to the Quiet
For one minute, just listen. Not to the noise outside, but to the quiet underneath it. Allow yourself to feel held by that silence.
When you open your eyes, notice how much calmer your body feels.
Why This Works?
Stillness isn't about emptying your mind completely — it's about coming back to yourself. The breath grounds you, touch reassures you, and silence restores you. Even in 3 minutes, you can reset your nervous system and step back into your day with more clarity.
Try it This Week
Each time you feel overwhelmed, instead of pushing through, pause and try this ritual. See how it changes the way you move through your tasks, your conversations, and even your thoughts.
Stillness isn't something we find once and keep forever — it's something we return to again and again, like a spell we choose to cast whenever we need it most.
May this ritual be your reminder: stillness is always within reach.
